Residential house in Palanga
Through creative discussions it was decided to avoid the impression of a cumbersome hovering object dictated by a living area on a single level, therefore the scheme was divided into three distinct volumes corresponding to three functional areas:
The children’s rooms with dedicated bathrooms and toilets are firmly positioned on the ground, while the parents’ area – a double bedroom with private bathroom – is raised imposingly on an elegant tower leg, which serves as a storage room. The central area houses a staircase, the main living areas on the first floor and a garage, an entrance and technical rooms on the ground floor.
The three volumes are joined by a central transitional axis. Walking along it you perceive slight changes in the spaces (the finish of the floor that follows the direction of the axis throughout the house further enhances the sensation) and translates into the internal scenario of the house: a slight pulsation of the spaces, light and orientation, attention to the surrounding nature, lifestyle arrangement.
The house becomes like the fingers of a hand immersed in the sand, trying to touch it; the rear facade looks like a funnel: it captures light, wind, nature.
The project aims for an image of solidity and refinement as the facade is handcrafted from Belgian clinker, which is stacked and glued to eliminate gaps. On the other hand, the tower leg, sometimes consciously placed art, plank and structure, adds a touch of playfulness to the house, adapting to the atmosphere of its city.
